When our customers need assistance with binding options we can help them decide on a presentation format. We’ll suggest various options depending on how the materials are going to be used, the design and style of the product or service they represent, and the shelf life needed. Corporate Document Solutions’ in-house bindery provides a wide variety of finishing options, saving our customers both time and money by eliminating the need for costly outsourcing.
CDS’ Finishing Options
Acetate Cover:
A transparent sheet that protects the cover of any book or manual.
Tabs:
Index tabs allow for easy, fast referencing of sections in binders and manuals. Tabs
can be custom printed in a variety of banks. Tabs & Mylar Reinforcement
Binder:
Manuals can also be printed and inserted into ring binders. Our standard ring binders are white, clearview 3-rings which can be customized with full-color covers and spines.
Color Cover:
Color Covers can be added to any binder or manual. They are usually printed on heavier stock and can be protected by an acetate cover.
Double Parallel Fold:
A double parallel fold is when a document folds in half twice.
Fold In Half:
A document that is scored and folded in half. Typically used for brochures and cards.
Plastic Spiral Coil:
Plastic spiral coil binding is a popular book binding method for items such as reports,
presentations and proposals. Documents bound with spiral coil open a full 360° and can be laid flat on a desk or table without damage to the pages. Coil Books.
Saddle Stitch:
Saddle stitching or signature bookletmaking is the process by which sheets of paper (in signatures of four pages each) are folded in half and stapled through the center of the spine of folded sheets.
Stitch Upper Left:
Stitch upper left is the term used when each set of documents are stapled in the upper left corner. This option is typically used when all pages are of the same orientation (i.e. all portrait or all landscape).
Tri-Fold:
Trifolds are commonly used for marketing events, services or products. The panels fold in on each other to form the finished size. The three panels do not have the same width since you need to compensate for the thickness of the paper in the fold and tolerances of the folding machine.
Unfolded:
Unfolded documents are simply flat sheets of paper inserted into binders as front covers; used as flyers, single page sell sheets, or letterhead
Z-Fold: A document folding method that uses two parallel folds to create six panels of equal size – three panels on each side of the paper.
The two folds are made in opposite directions, which forms a shape that resembles the letter Z.
The Z-fold method is commonly used for brochures.
Cutting:
Precision cutting is the process by which exact measurements are entered into a
computer program and a mechanized cutter is used to make cuts. While we generally try to include at least a 1/8” bleed to allow for variance, cuts are precise to 1/16” or more.
Drilling:
Drilling is a term used to describe the process of creating a hole. The most common type
of drilling performed is 3-hole drilling, which enables items to be inserted into three-ring binders.
Padding:
Padding is a term used to describe the process of creating pads, as in notepads. This
typically involves taking a stack of documents, adding a chipboard back, and gluing them together across the top.
Perforating:
Perforating refers to the process of piercing a line of small holes to allow for easy tearing.
Shrink Wrapping:
Shrink Wrapping refers to the process of wrapping items in plastic film, then applying heat so that the film shrinks and either loosely or tightly wraps around the items. 
Thermal Tape Binding:Â Thermal binding is a type of book binding commonly used for manuals.
With this type of binding, a piece of tape is actually wrapped and glued around
the base of the document’s pages.
Square Fold Binding:
Square Fold Binding is an affordable solution in-between a saddle stitch finish and perfect binding. The finish offers a more professional look of a perfect bound book without the hefty price tag. Another benefit is the ability to produce short run quantities.
Perfect Book Binding:
Perfect Book Binding is a method used on soft cover books. During this binding method a strong flexible thermal glue used to bind the pages together at the spine. Advantages are that the books easily stack, and titles along with other information can be printed along the spine.
Laminated:Laminated is the process is to make something, especially paper,
stronger and thicker by layering sheets of clear plastic over it. This will help protect important documents or office signage.

UV-coating:
UV coating is a process where a very glossy, shiny liquid coating applied to a printed paper surface and cured on a printing press or special machine using ultraviolet light. This is usually used on print marketing materials such as flyers and business cards. It gives a professional appearance with more durability to your printed products.
Collating & Gathering: Collate refers to the gathering and arranging of individual printed or other components into a pre-determined sequence. This can be automated or performed as a manual operation Depending on the complexity of the project. This is often an intricate part of our fulfillment services.
